The Russian Revolution of 1917 plunged the already war-exhausted country into turmoil. For Jewish people, despair turned to horror as pogroms brought violence like they had never seen before. It was a precursor, a dress rehearsal, for the Holocaust. And yet, this humanitarian tragedy is relatively unstudied and little understood. Feiga Shamis, a Jewish mother of 12, survived. She wrote about those years in a rare, firsthand account. Her story gives voice to the many thousands of forgotten victims. A story, once told, shall not be forgotten.
